President Trump on Friday tweeted that poll numbers in favor of “no impeachment” have “gone through the roof.” The whole thing is a “total hoax” and a “scam” that Nancy Pelosi started more than two years ago, he claimed.
Trump clearly wasn’t reading from his favorite network’s latest poll numbers, however, with Fox News revealing half of America is in favor of impeaching and removing the president — up from 49% in October.
Of course, the results break down along partisan lines, with 85% of Democrats in the pro-impeachment and removal camp and 84% of Republicans against it. The big move was with the independents, with 45% supporting impeachment and removal, up 7 percentage points from October.
Trump’s reaction on Sunday to this poll was pretty much as expected:
Fox News, home to many fierce Trump defenders, has been the target of an increasing number of criticisms from the president, such as this:
On a positive note for the president, his approval rating in the same poll has climbed three points, with 45% of voters giving him a thumbs up, compared with 42% in October. Still, 53% disapprove of the job he’s doing.
The poll, which interviewed 1,000 randomly selected registered voters, was conducted from last Sunday through Wednesday.
