The worst performers of the session were Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:), which fell 12.02% or 195.5 points to trade at 1431.5 at the close. Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:) declined 9.64% or 279.5 points to end at 2619.5 and Citizen Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:) was down 7.27% or 38.0 points to 485.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1920 to 1508 and 265 ended unchanged.

USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 105.93, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 118.52.
