Meanwhile, Titan Company Ltd (NS:) added 1.49% or 16.90 points to end at 1144.70 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:) was up 1.31% or 25.30 points to 1952.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:), which fell 5.43% or 23.75 points to trade at 398.10 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:) declined 8.13% or 1654.00 points to end at 18751.75 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:) was down 6.64% or 24.65 points to 342.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:) which rose 1.06% to 1951.70, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:) which was up 0.87% to settle at 1701.75 and Infosys Ltd (BO:) which gained 0.56% to close at 720.05.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which was down 9.39% to 396.85 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:) which lost 5.58% to settle at 154.85 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:) which was down 4.48% to 85.35 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1330 to 269 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1796 fell and 605 advanced, while 152 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 8.13% or 1654.00 to 18751.75. Shares in Yes Bank Ltd (BO:) fell to 3-years lows; losing 5.58% or 9.15 to 154.85.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.98% to 27.3825 a new 3-years high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.25% or 3.25 to $1284.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.38% or 0.85 to hit $62.51 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.11 to trade at $71.73 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.71% to 70.430, while EUR/INR rose 0.58% to 79.1350.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.062.
